This tutorial was developed in support of QGIS training for a workshop in October 2016. The link to the workshop agenda is here. This tutorial is for curations managers and researchers who would like to perform spatial data visualization and analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Prerequisites
Data The dataset used in this tutorial is Caribidae data from iDigBio.
Software The software used in this tutorial is QGIS 10.3.
Setup | Dowload files used on the lesson. | |
00:00 | Introduction: Visualizing datasets | What is the difference between vector and raster data? |
01:00 | Introduction: Preview and explore toolkits | What kinds of auxiliary data can complement spatial analysis? |
02:15 | Exploration: Aggregating by regions | How can observations be aggregated by a given spatial unit of analysis? |
02:55 | Exploration: Time animation | How can observations be checked for errors given dates or transcriptions? |
03:35 | Exploration: Uncertainty | How can observations be symbolized to show systematic error and uncertainty by collector, or data quality score? |
04:05 | Exploration: Next steps | How can observations be edited once errors are detected? |
04:35 | Finish |
The actual schedule may vary slightly depending on the topics and exercises chosen by the instructor.
